International Artist Residency

Create meaningful work in the South of France.

“This residency reminded me why I became an artist.”

“This residency has taught me a lot about myself… although I’m still discovering exactly what that is. I hope I’m still figuring out what happened here years from now. It’s reminded me why I became an artist.”

Why RAAL?

We’re excited to welcome artists from around the world to Quillan, France, home of the River Aude International Artist Residency.

Nestled in the foothills of the Pyrenees, the Upper Aude Valley offers an extraordinary setting for creative work. Here, artists discover more than a studio—they find time to slow down, immerse themselves in the landscape, and reconnect with the reasons they make art.

Whether you’re painting in the studio, exploring the region through plein air practice, or sharing ideas during critiques and artist talks, the residency is designed to support meaningful artistic growth. You’ll work independently while becoming part of an active creative community built on generosity, curiosity, and exchange.

At River Aude Artists Lab, we believe the best work comes from the combination of dedicated studio time, inspiring surroundings, and genuine human connection. Our goal is simple: to provide the space, support, and community that allow artists to create some of the strongest work of their careers.
